The software revolution has given people access to millions of specialized apps, but there’s one fundamental tool that still remains out of reach for most non-programmers — the database.
Rather than relying on software created by others, we believe that people should be able to organize information in a way that makes sense to them — with the ease of editing a photo or document. Airtable is a modern database created for everyone, and it gives people the simplicity of a spreadsheet, tools for team collaboration, and a seamless mobile experience.
Three months ago, we released Airtable to the public and the response has been incredible. We’re seeing people using our tools in ways we never could have imagined — preserving ancient languages, tracking scientific equipment, managing construction projects, and even planning a U.S. presidential campaign. We’ve come to believe that we’re on to something extremely useful, so we’re inspired to go further, faster.
Today, we’re proud to announce that’ve raised an additional $7.6M in funding to accelerate our product roadmap and build a strong, enduring company. The investment was led by our friends at CRV with participation from Brennan O'Donnell (VP Sales & Customer Success at SurveyMonkey), Ilya Sukhar (Founder of Parse and Director of Product Management at Facebook), Joshua Reeves (CEO & Co-Founder at ZenPayroll), Kevin Mahaffey (Co-Founder and CTO at Lookout), and Othman Laraki (Co-Founder of Color Genomics). We’d also like to thank our outstanding seed investors for their ongoing support, including Freestyle Capital, Caffeinated Capital, DCVC, Crunchfund, and Founder Collective, among others.
Alongside this investment, we’re excited to announce that Francis Larkin has joined Airtable as Vice President of Growth and will oversee marketing, communications and partnerships. Previously, Francis spent five years at Facebook, where he was the Director of Product Marketing and led a global marketing team responsible for Facebook’s developer platform, news and video products, and F8 conference.
We’re just getting started on our mission to expand human productivity by giving people simple tools to organize their world. If we can make databases as intuitive and accessible as word processors and spreadsheets, we believe we can unlock a new type of creativity with use cases yet to be dreamed and built. If you’d like to join our small and driven team, we’re hiring.
Thank you to all of our amazing users for your encouragement, and please follow us on Twitter to hear about more big announcements in the coming months.
